Annual Famous Used Book Sale
The Annual Famous Used Book Sale is for those interested in a short-term assignment. This is a fun way to serve our library community and help raise lots of money for our Library District. Always in September at Koelbel library, this sale is a massive undertaking and we need all the volunteers we can get! Volunteers set up the sale, work as cashiers, man the hold table or re-stock books. Shifts are usually three to four hours.
Begin with Books Early Childhood Literacy Program
Begin with Books Early Childhood Literacy Program is a part of Arapahoe Library District’s early childhood literacy services. Volunteers visit area daycare homes one time each month; sharing stories, games and rhymes within a small group. Materials and training are provided. It is a wonderful way to connect with young children and encourage the joy of language and reading. For more information please contact Lori Romero at lromero@ald.lib.co.us or 303-LIBRARY (303-542-7279).
Library on Wheels Assistants
Library on Wheels assistants help staff on our new mobile library facility with shelving materials and assisting patrons as needed. Time required is two to two and half hours weekly or bi-weekly. For more information please contact Richard Lyda at rlyda@ald.lib.co.us or 303-LIBRARY (303-542-7279).
Computer Instructors
Computer instructors teach classes on topics such as: Windows, Access, Excel, and using email; they also hold open labs where more personal help may be offered on a variety of computer related issues. Instructors are screened and subject to approval from our Staff Development department. Time commitment varies.
Program Assistants
Program Assistants help library staff prepare and execute programs. Activities include: preparing crafts, set-up and clean-up, crowd control and distributing evaluation forms. Volunteers used on an on-call basis.
School Readiness
School Readiness volunteers visit preschool classrooms in child care centers or elementary schools in Arapahoe County. A hands-on way to help children develop early literacy skills and prepare for school, volunteers share stories, songs, finger-plays and a love of books. Resources and monthly mini-training sessions are provided as part of this project. The time commitment required varies from once a week to twice a month. For more information please contact us at 303-LIBRARY (303-542-7279).
Teen Volunteers
Teen volunteers are an indispensable part of our Summer Reading Program. Teens help with a variety of activities including: handing out prizes, helping with crafts and programs, making balloon animals and riding along in the bookmobile. We also need teen volunteers during the school year. Apply online.
Volunteer With the Friends
