2022 Summer Reading Wrap-Up

For many libraries, summer is one of the busiest times of the year! Kids are out from school to enjoy their summer vacation with friends and family. Fun can be a big part of the season and that means reading can too! Arapahoe Libraries offers an annual Summer Reading program because keeping children reading outside of school supports learning.

Throughout June and July, patrons were invited to join the theme "Get Lost in the Library". Each library location staged rotating activities such as mazes, scavenger hunts, and secret codes! There were also special events for all ages to spark curiosity and foster engagement like Lost in the Jungle, Fairytale Dance Party, and Jurassic Adventure.

A key feature of this year's Summer Reading was encouraging ages 0-18 years old to select their own free book to keep. Research shows that allowing children to choose what they read increases their motivation and engagement in reading. Arapahoe Libraries offered giveaway books in three different languages. Check out how many titles were put in the hands of youth in our communities!
