The American Library Association and the Association for Library Service to Children introduced a new award this year: the Excellence in Early Learning Digital Media Award, opens a new window. The award was given to an American digital media producer who created digital media for children ages 2 to 8 years.
In January 2019, the app Lexi's World, from Pop Pop Pop LLC, was given an honorable mention for its "gentle introduction to letters, words, animals and interactions," "playful landscape" and "rich interaction" for children and caregivers.
She begins alone in her world, but you can use letters to build Lexi more friends. Spell out items for your creations to play with, too!
*Remember, as with all media, it's best if you and your child play together. The American Pediatrics Association recommends that children ages 2 to 5 have a trusted adult to relate what they're seeing to the world around them. They also suggest screen time be limited to one hour a day for this age group. For more information, take a look at their recommendations for media usage, opens a new window.
