App Review: Mini-U: Tangrams

Let your kids get creative and learn to think flexibly, all while playing with concepts of geometry and engineering when they make their own tangram patterns.

PopAppFactory's Mini-U: Tangrams is just one of many in their suite of creative free-play games. The two modes of this game allow children to pick their comfort level and grow in experience.

Template mode shows what the finished product will look like and gives the required pieces. There's also an option to turn on an outline of the shapes on the grid.

Your child can get as silly or serious as they want in creative mode! Choose from a wide variety of shapes and colors to put life to their imaginations. And when they're done? Share them with everyone you know by emailing the picture to yourself.

And their privacy policy? It gets a thumbs up from me. No personal information is collected, no location tags are recorded, no IP addresses are stored and no advertisements are used (so there's no way for advertisers to collect information about your use).

Mini-U: Tangrams is only available on iPads at the Apple Store, opens a new window for $2.99.

*Remember, as with all media, it's best if you and your child play together. The American Pediatrics Association recommends that children ages 2 to 5 have a trusted adult to relate what they're seeing to the world around them. They also suggest screen time be limited to one hour a day for this age group. For more information, take a look at their recommendations for media usage, opens a new window.
