David Levithan is often credited for jump starting a huge boom in young adult literature featuring gay main characters. His protagonists are smart, aware of the world, interesting, and of course, his novels feature a lot of romance. He has partnered with other influential YA authors, as well, including John Green.
Check out his newest book The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily, with a Christmas romance.

David says: "When I started writing Every Day, there were two questions I wanted to answer – first, what would it be like to be a person who grew up without gender, race, sexual orientation, parents, friends, and all of the other things we usually classify ourselves by, and, second, what would it be like to be in love with someone who changed every day – would it be possible? I wrote the book to figure out what my answers were."
Levithan is known for collaborating with our YA authors. In his newest book (published Summer 2016), he collaborated with author Nina LaCour and the two switch off writing each chapter. This book is heartbreaking and angsty, but also celebratory and fun.
On this book, Levithan collaborated with extremely popular YA author John Green. The premise is that two boys, with the same name, meet in the middle of the book. This project took more than five years to craft. You get so lost in the story, you forget that it's even written by two different authors.
