"The Funeral" is my favorite track from Band of Horses' 2006 debut album, Everything All the Time. Don't let the dulcet opening verses trick you! In a 2000s play on the 90s alternative soft/loud structure, the song builds repeatedly to soaring highs, topped by Ben Bridwell's surprisingly powerful vocals. The details of the song, from the precise instrumentation to Bridwell's careful (and kind of curious) pronunciation of "funeral," carry the track to its outstanding conclusion.
