Scavenger Hunt #4

Erin, opens a new window is here with another scavenger hunt! This time, let's find out more about background knowledge.

Background knowledge is information children are taught, or learn through experience, about the world around them. The more your children know, the easier it will be for them to decode and understand words when they are learning to read. They'll also have an easier time learning new concepts in school.

You can do this activity inside, outside or both! Listed below are four animals to find outside or in books or magazines. After you find the animals together, ask your child to list what they know about them. Build background knowledge by asking more questions. Where do they live? Can they climb trees or walls? Do they have fur or feathers?

Rabbit

Duck

Crow

Squirrel
