Staff Share Their Fandom

Ain't no geek like a library geek, 'cause a library geek don't stop!

We're pretty passionate about everything we do—including geeking out. So, we thought we'd share a few of our favorite things.

Doctor Who

Is there a doctor in the house? You know it! The overwhelming vote for favorite staff fandom was Dr. Who.

ArapahoeShelley "Doctor Who! Specifically The Doctor and Rose. I love the fast paced, witty, yet sentimental 10th Doctor. And, come on, who can fail to love those Chuck Taylors he was always kicking around in?"

ArapahoeJillA and ArapahoeMarieI concur.

ArapahoeJulia shared this Dr. Who quote:

I'm not crying, you're crying.

ArapahoeSarahD shared this quote:

You want weapons? We're in a library. Books are the best weapon in the world. This room's the greatest arsenal we could have. Arm yourself!

ArapahoeJennieB also commented: "Matt Smith is my favorite doctor, maybe tied with Tom Baker."

The Costume Making Guide

Cosplay World

ArapahoeCatherine "I geek out about cosplay! I love choosing a character and figuring out how to bring them to life. The fun is in the details! My most recent cosplay (all made by me!): The The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, a less well-known comic character because she hasn't been in movies or on TV yet."

Hawkworld

ArapahoeCody "I have always had a fondness for Hawkman. When I was a kid I loved the idea of a hero who had bird wings. It wasn't until I was an adult and saw someone cosplaying him and Hawkgirl at Comic Con that I remebered how much I liked that character. I have since been trying to read as much as I can and am now working on putting together a Hawkman/Hawkgirl cosplay with my girlfriend."

Finding Bigfoot

ArapahoeWendy "I'm all about Bigfoot right now. Amazing how many Bigfoot signs you can find in any given forest "

The Great Muppet Caper The Muppet Movie

ArapahoeMary  "I have loved the Muppets since my cousin bought me the soundtrack to The Muppet Movie (the FIRST one) on vinyl when I was 8. I was SO EXCITED when they started making movies again. The Great Muppet Caper is THE BEST off all of them, IMHO, followed closely by The Muppets Take Manhattan. Fozzie Bear is my patronus. I dressed up as Beaker for Halloween once."

ArapahoeElizabethP "The original The Muppet Movie is the best."

Watchmen

ArapahoeJeremiah  "WATCHMEN by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. It was only after the third time I read this book that I felt like I truly understood it."

Alive

ArapahoeAndrea "I really geek out on an androgynous aesthetic (glam rock, to k/j/c-pop, manga etc)."

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

ArapahoeTiegan "Hogwarts is my home!"

Game of Thrones

ArapahoeGalina

“... a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge.” -Tyrion Lannister, Game of Thrones

Star Trek, the Next Generation

ArapahoeRachel "I'll be a Star Trek fan until death. I get such enjoyment out of the message of respect for all people and all life forms. It shows a future where balance with nature is the expectation, not just a guideline. I also love that the series shows a better way for people to treat each other. There is still conflict, but with a foundation of education, conversation, and compromise."

The Royal Tenenbaums

ArapahoeElisabeth "Wes Anderson movies! The dialogue, the costumes, the color palette, the actors (Bill Murray! Angelica Huston!), even the font he uses in title cards - my kind of oddball and I love them!"

Princeless

ArapahoeBeverly "Currently, I am a new devotee of Princess Adrienne of Princeless. Love that girl power! My fav is volume 1 when Princess Adrienne decided to 'be the change.'"

The X-files

ArapahoeSocial "Mulder and Scully all the way! I just want to believe, okay?"
