Website and Catalog Tip – Pausing Holds

Let's find out about pausing holds!

Have you ever had all your holds arrive at once? You suddenly have 10 movies to watch in 1 week, or 15 books to read in 3 weeks. You try to binge read or watch but eventually end up returning them unfinished and feeling bummed out. Or maybe you're just going on vacation and don't want everything showing up while you're away. We have 2 words for you: pause hold.

Pausing holds is a feature in your account that you can use to keep your hold on an item until you are ready for it. Not only that, it keeps your place in line.

Let's get started. First you need to log in to your account, then under "My Borrowing" select "On Hold."

Now find the title you want to pause and click the Pause button below it. If your hold was able to be paused, you will get the message "Successfully Paused Hold(s)."

If you'd like to pause more than one hold, you can select the check boxes next to the holds you'd like to pause then select the pause button at the top of the page.

Follow the same steps and click "resume" on any paused holds you no longer wish to keep paused.

What holds can't be paused?

Holds can't be paused on items that have an available copy when you place the hold or items that are already in transit to your hold pickup location. If you'd like to pause a hold in either of these situations,  just give us a call or send us a message and we'd be happy to help!
