Geek Out Contest


October 1-31

Geek out by submitting your creations for our sixth-annual fandom contest! We’re inviting teens ages 11-18 to represent their favorite fandom (book, show, sport, game or anything else) in a creative way for a chance to win a cool prize. Write a poem, paint a picture, cosplay, make a video, bake a cake or whatever you can dream up.

How it works:

October 1-31*: Submit your completed entry form online or download and submit it at any Arapahoe Libraries location. Individuals are invited to submit up to three entries.**

Saturday, October 27: NEW this year! Entering a cosplay for the Geek Out Contest? Participants are encouraged to show off their cosplay and share more about how they made their costume at our Cosplay Catwalk event, 2-4 pm at Koelbel Library.  

Thursday, November 8: Winners will be notified. Thank you to the Friends of Arapahoe Libraries for generously donating the prizes!

This year’s prizes include:   

  • 1 Nintendo Switch Console and game   
  • 1 pack of two three-day passes to Denver Comic Con 
  • 6 individual Saturday Denver Comic Con tickets 
  • 4 fandom gift baskets 
  • 1 Nintendo 3DS XL and game 
  • 1 Kindle Fire 10 tablet

Saturday, November 10: All participants and their families are invited to attend the awards ceremony, 5-7 pm at Smoky Hill Library.

November 11-30: After the contest, pick up your creations at Smoky Hill Library by November 30.

Need Inspiration?

Below are some suggestions to spark your creativity, but feel free to create anything you dream up!   

- Fan fiction (poetry, written lyrics or other formats)  
- Fan art in any medium (digital, pencil, paint, sculptures and more)  
- Cosplay (dress up like your favorite character)  
- Videos or short films  
- Songs  
- Decorated cakes or cookies

*Please submit your entry by Wednesday, October 31 during library hours. Online entries will be accepted until midnight of October 31. 

** Sorry, no group entries are accepted this year. If you are submitting a writing entry, please limit your piece to 1,000 words or three pages.
