VIRTUAL LIVING ROOM
YOU ARE INVITED
Arapahoe Libraries invites you to spend time with our hosts in a virtual space where real conversations take place. Hosts are experts in a topic or are passionate about a subject, from podcasts to the great outdoors, mindfulness to crafting. Schedule a time to talk, to explore and learn something new.
HOW IT WORKS
Click on a host's picture to learn more about them and what they'd like to talk about. See someone you'd like to talk with in a virtual living room? Click on a day on their calendar to schedule a thirty-minute virtual appointment.
To ensure a great conversation, please review these guidelines before booking your appointment.
Patrons and hosts should feel respected, so please be thoughtful with your words and questions.
To ensure the comfort of both participants, a conversation may be stopped if either the patron or host feels they aren’t being treated with respect.
The set time for each conversation is thirty minutes.
Please do not record, videotape, or take pictures of the host.
Hosts will not give out personal contact information. If you'd like more time with a host, please schedule this through the Virtual Living Room.

HI, I'M ALICE!
I am a curious person who loves learning new things. My hobbies include reading and editing fiction, Western history, genealogy and quilting. Social justice is a passion of mine. I like seeing how I can make a difference in the world, even if it’s in a small way, like raising a guide dog for the blind. I enjoy public speaking and have done everything from sermons to stand-up comedy.
In her earlier life, Alice earned an M.B.A. in Marketing and worked as an advertising copywriter and corporate training consultant. As a second career, she earned a degree in library science and currently buys adult fiction for the library district, the best job she's ever had.
HI, I'M SARINA!
As an avid lover of all things sci-fi and fantasy, I've discovered a love of video and tabletop games. Whether console or PC, there are many amazing stories to experience in the virtual world. My skills with sewing and 3D printing have given me the chance to design and create cosplays of my favorite characters and their cool gadgets. I enjoy the creation process from start to finish, and if you need ideas of what to do while you're at home or want to talk about your favorite game character, schedule a time for us to chat!
Sarina is originally from Idaho and loves the great outdoors, especially in the fall. Sarina has a BA from Utah State University in Global Communications and Philosophy. She has dabbled in many careers, from in-home nurse to specialty coffee barista. In her down time, Sarina hangs out with her spider-loving cat and her cuddly black lab.
HI, I'M JENN!
As a working mom who’s short on time, listening to podcasts is a great way for me to keep learning because podcasts make accessing information simple. If I have a question or I need to Google something, I always hope to find a podcast related to the topic. Many of my conversations with my best friend start with, "I heard this on a podcast..." So let's talk podcasts over a virtual cup of coffee.
Since childhood, Jenn has loved books and learning. She always wanted to work in a library, but spent 16 years as a massage therapist. After she retired from that career, she was left wondering what to do with her time. She was thrilled to find a bustling café inside Smoky Hill Library, and applied for a job as a barista.
HEY, I'M JILL!
Mindfulness meditation has been instrumental and transformative in supporting my intentions for well-being and peace in meeting all aspects of life. I'm passionate about supporting others in their curiosity—and skepticism—of meditation practice. I co-founded Upstream Mindfulness, a professional wellness consultancy specializing in mindfulness-based training that promote resilience, creativity, health and happiness. How can I help you find peace and well-being in your life?
Jill is a qualified teacher of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), the recognized gold standard of mindfulness meditation training programs developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the UMASS Medical School. She has practiced some form of meditation for over 30 years, and Ashtanga yoga since 2005. Jill works at Smoky Hill Library and has led guided meditation practices for Arapahoe Libraries staff and other libraries since 2011.
HEY, I'M NICOLE!
Some of my favorite things are art, history and hiking. I enjoy painting and exploring new artistic mediums. Since moving to Denver over a year ago, I have discovered dozens of amazing day hikes, and as an avid hiker, I hike almost every day in all seasons. And finally, I love history. I was an archivist for a large newspaper in Virginia and before that I worked in archives for Ancestry.com, The Library of Virginia and The Supreme Court of Virginia. Have a genealogy question? I can help with that too.
Nicole is an events specialist who collaborates on programs for all ages. She has a B.A. in History and Masters in Public History.
HEY, I'M KATY!
I love teaching and learning new skills. I am currently very into baking pies and would love to hear about your baking projects! I would also enjoy talking cooking, fermentation, or any kind of craft with you. I am passionate about envisioning a better world through speculative fiction, and my favorite author is Ursula K. Le Guin.
Katy is a Technology Specialist at Arapahoe Libraries and is originally from Georgia, but she has lived in Colorado a little over five years. In addition to her role at the library, she is a fiber artist and educator specializing in knitting, embroidery, sewing and puppetry.
HI, I'M SUMMER!
By day I serve as a career services librarian for Arapahoe Libraries, but in my spare time I turn my attention to genre fiction writing. Have you started a fiction piece yourself? Would you like to talk to someone about pacing, plotting or character development? I am delighted to share my experience establishing a daily writing habit or to discuss favorite online writing classes and events.
HI, I'M KATIE!
Hi, I'm Katie. I thrive when I'm being creative, whether it’s upcycling materials for craft projects or spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking. Not to mention sewing, knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking and cross-stitching. Name a craft and I've either dabbled in it or I can't wait to learn more about it.
HI, I'M ANNA!
I’m passionate about lifelong learning. In my free time you'll find me listening to nonfiction audiobooks and catching up on documentaries and docudramas. Are you naturally curious? Ask me a question about science, travel, mythology, folktales, art, music, business, health, nature, design, technology, archetypes, humor, microhistories, biographies and more. I am happy to give you reading, listening and watching recommendations for your favorite topic.
Anna is an information services librarian who loves a good question and is passionate about freedom of information and access to technology. She loves sharing knowledge from the varied databases and digital materials found at Arapahoe Libraries.
