Penny Marshall passed away on December 17, 2018 at the age of 75.
She became famous in the 70s for her roll as Laverne on the sitcom Laverne & Shirley, earning 3 Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress.
She also directed many hit movies, including Big, which was the first film directed by a woman to gross more than $100 million at the box office. The movie Awakenings earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. Other movies she directed include:
In 2012 she released a memoir, My Mother Was Nuts, that gave us a glimpse into her personal life and how she got her breakout role in The Odd Couple.
I loved Penny. I grew up with her. She was born with a great gift. She was born with a funnybone and the instinct of how to use it. I was very lucky to have lived with her and her funnybone. I will miss her.
