Art Gallery Exhibitions: February 2023

February 1-28, 2023

Arapahoe Libraries is proud to host art exhibits each month at Eloise May, Koelbel and Smoky Hill libraries. Library galleries offer the community a place to view a variety of art at no cost while also providing visibility to local artists. A volunteer art selection committee selects exhibits based on artistic quality, variety of exhibits and the suitability of format for each exhibit space.

Shilpa Gadgil

Koelbel Library

I am originally from India but have been living in Colorado for the past 13 years. I started painting a few years back. Mainly I paint nature-based paintings. The specialty of my paintings is a burst of colors and movement of lines.

I personally like to paint flowers.

My motivation for painting comes from nature and colors.
The influence of my paintings is from old folk-art paintings from India.
I want viewers to enjoy vibrant colors and the flow in the painting.

Boris Skomorovskiy

Eloise May Library

I am committed to the style of impressionism combined with decorativeness. The very essence of this creative method is to reflect the variability of the surrounding reality. As an artist, I try to catch the elusive moment and express the mood of the moment on the canvas. In my paintings, I try to capture the moment "here and now", taking into account the lighting, time of day, weather, angle of view. I mainly work in dry pastels, still lifes and landscapes.

Susan B. McKay: Anything Watercolor

Smoky Hill Library

It is a pleasure to share my artwork at Smoky Hill Library as they provide our community with a wonderful variety of resources. Reading and the arts reach all ages and stimulate the imagination.

My two biggest influences in art have been my instructors: Judy Patti and Colleen Nelson. Their instruction, support and encouragement have brought me to where I am today. We are all artists expressing in our own unique ways. My advice would be to listen to your inner guidance, pursue your dreams and try to fill your days with laughter. I am always aware of the nature and the beauty surrounding us – when something moves me, I cannot wait to put paint to paper and create. Art is wonderful as there are no errors, so enjoy!
