Smaller Goals Make New Year’s Resolutions Fun

December really flew by and suddenly we're well into January of the new year. Feeling like you missed the boat when it comes to setting your New Year's resolutions? Join the club!

New Year's resolutions are goals you set for yourself to achieve throughout the new year. They can include things like getting more active, getting a new job, learning a new language, gain new skills and so much more. However, it's easy to compare your goals to others and then feel disappointed when you're not able to stick to these "big goals" for the year. I shared this frustration with my friends and colleagues, and they encouraged me to create a bingo card of smaller, achievable and fun goals to help stay motivated throughout the year.

Some of my personal goals include:

  • Pet more cats
  • Visit a local restaurant instead of a major chain
  • Listen to a new band
  • Read a book outside of your genre comfort-zone
  • Try a new type of pasta (not spaghetti, raviolis or fettuccini because they are my favorites)

I also created a bingo card for silly, exciting and unpredictable things that could happen worldwide in the next year. Inspired by Dan Harris' 10% Happier, I chose to only include positive goals and predictions for the future so that I could avoid focusing on my fears and instead recognize and celebrate the good things happening in the world.

Global predictions include:

  • A new kind of shark is discovered
  • A cure for ___________ medical condition is announced
  • 30 solid days of rain
