March Reading Madness Scores Slam Dunk

2017 Contest

Arapahoe Libraries celebrated the popular “March Madness” basketball tournament with our own literary version – “March Reading Madness!” The first contest, held March 7-April 5, 2017 featured eight of the most all-time popular books:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
The Lord of the Rings
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
And Then There Were None
The Hobbit
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
The Catcher in the Rye
1984

Patrons were invited to cast their votes for their favorite books, in the library or through the website, each week. Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone and 1984 rounded out the top two books. The classic dystopian novel just barely beat out J. K. Rowling’s beloved fantasy read, with 298 and 276 votes, respectively.

To celebrate 1984’s big win, we hosted a Facebook contest, inviting patrons to share their all-time favorite books by commenting on our post. Congrats to Smoky Hill Library patron Kim Bucklin, who was randomly selected as our champ. She took home an Arapahoe Libraries gift bag that included a copy of the winning book and library goodies. Overall, the contest was a slam dunk experience for our patrons!
