The Crown Netflix's show on Elizabeth II has captured our imagination as it dives in to the inner life of England's longest reigning monarch. From her trials of being a mother, wife and sister while wearing the crown and navigating ever-changing politics and both private and public scandals, you won't be able to stop watching history unfold in front of you. Watch season two when you're ready, or check out the companion books for season one (1947–1955) and season two (1956–1977). Seasons one and two star Claire Foy, Matt Smith, Vanessa Kirby and John Lithgow.
The Great If you're looking for another royal show, Hulu's series is about Catherine (the Great), the Empress of Russia from 1762–1796, and similar to Elizabeth II, is Russia's longest-ruling female leader. But unlike Elizabeth II, Catherine's life has been overshadowed by her (often outrageous) exploits that created a mythological aura around her over the last two hundred years. In this Emmy-nominated series, meet Catherine before she became "great," as she travels to Russia for her arranged marriage to a rather disappointing and mercurial Peter III. Stars Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult.
Dear White People This Netflix show, now in its fourth season, follows black students at an Ivy League school, and each episode focuses on a single student navigating what it means to be black in a predominantly white culture, all while trying to be politically and culturally correct. On Rotten Tomatoes, season one is "Certified Fresh." If you like comedy-dramas, self-deprecation, and some absurdity, try this.
Grace and Frankie What would you do if your husband left you for your longtime rival's husband? That's what happens to Grace and Frankie, whose husbands want to marry each other. Starring Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, both nominated several times for Emmys and Golden Globes for their performances on this Netflix original series. Also stars Sam Waterston. Request season two.
The Fall Gillian Anderson said that playing talented and icy detective Stella Gibson is her favorite role. In this dark psychological (formerly Netflix Original) series, Stella believes that a series of cases are the work of a single man, a loving and dedicated father, who happens to be a serial killer with a particular type of victim. Catch series two and three, the final series, though fans are hopeful for a fourth series. Stars Gillian Anderson, Jamie Dornan and John Lynch.
Letterkenny Letterkenny, the cult Canadian comedy show, was acquired by Hulu in May 2019 and season seven premiered as a Hulu Original. Follow the daily life of a small rural Canadian community, from ice hockey rivalries to on again off again relationships, but what this show is best known for is its wordplay and cold opens that you'll be quoting and telling your friends to watch, if they haven't already.
Castle Rock Love Stephen King and his fascination with Maine? Try the Hulu series that focuses around the fictional town and multiverse set in Castle Rock, Maine. Keep your eyes out for Shawshank Prison and characters like Annie Wilkes (Misery), plus you'll see actors Sissy Spacek (you know, Carrie) and Bill Skarsgård (the newest Pennywise).
