Digital Media Station Tips: Speech-to-Text with Adobe Premiere Pro

Transcribing Audio or Video? Let Adobe Premiere Pro Help

Do you have audio (mp3) or video (mp4) recordings of speeches, talks, interviews or notes? Are you transcribing those as you listen to them? Well guess what, Adobe Premiere Pro’s Speech-to-Text feature can do that for you, and much faster!

Rather than repeating instructions here, I recommend accessing LinkedIn Learning through your library card. Look for the course, Premiere Pro Essential Training (2022–2024),, opens a new window and scroll down to part 2 of section 11 titled, "Creating Automatic Transcripts and Captions." I recommend watching this segment while using Adobe Premiere on one of our Digital Media Station computers, with one of your files.

Additional Notes:

  • You can use our Digital Media Stations to convert your analog media (cassettes, video, vinyl, reel-to-reel) to digital (mp3 or mp4).
  • I have found that Premiere Pro’s Speech-to-Text feature does make mistakes with some words and symbols, so be sure to review the transcription for spelling and punctuation.
