Words have meaning!
When your children realize that words on a page have a message, their curiosity will be piqued and they'll want to find out how to decode the meaning. This is the essential early literacy skill, print awareness.
Write down the words to your favorite nursery rhyme and sing it with your child. Point to the words as you sing them. Do it again, but this time trade places and write down the words to your child's favorite song.
Try this activity with grocery lists, picture books, or even a newspaper. Words are everywhere!
