In Memoriam: Remembering Mary Weiss


Mary Weiss was an American singer best known as the lead vocalist of the 1960s girl group, The Shangri-Las. Born on December 28, 1948, in Queens, New York, Weiss rose to fame with hits like "Leader of the Pack" and "Remember (Walking in the Sand)." Her distinctive voice and emotive delivery contributed to the group's success during the heyday of the girl group era. After The Shangri-Las disbanded, Mary Weiss took a hiatus from the music industry before making a comeback with solo projects. Over the years, she has maintained a cult following, and her contributions to the iconic sound of The Shangri-Las continue to be celebrated in the history of pop music. Mary Weiss passed away on January 19, 2024.
