Lighting Tutorial: Aputure NOVA P300c


The Aputure Nova P300c is a professional-grade LED soft light panel that is ideal for film, broadcast and creative lighting workflows. This tutorial provides the basics on using the Aputure Nova.

Let's get started

Powering Up

Press the Power button on the control box to turn the light on.
Note: Studio Mode (if enabled) will make the light automatically power on when it receives power. Handy for lights out of reach.

Control Box Basics

The control box is the heart of operation. It usually has:

  • DISPLAY SCREEN
  • INT Knob: brightness (0–100%)
  • Mode / Light Mode button
  • CCT/Hue Knob
  • G/M / SAT Knob
  • Preset buttons

Note: Controls let you dial brightness, color temp, color hue, saturation, and select effect modes.


Adjusting Light Output

  • Rotate the INT (Intensity) knob to dim the light from 0% (off) to 100% (full) without color shift. 

CCT (Color Temperature)

  • Press the Light Mode button until you’re in CCT mode.
  • Turn the CCT/HUE knob to adjust color temperature from 2,000 K (warm) to 10,000 K (cool).
  • Use the G/M/SAT knob to fine-tune green/magenta balance.

Full Color Modes

  • Switch to HSI (Hue-Saturation-Intensity) or RGB/X,Y modes via the Light Mode button for richer color control - useful for creative lighting or color matching.

Built-In Effects & Presets

  • Press Light Mode to find FX (special effects) like fireworks, lightning, paparazzi, TV, cop car, candlelight, etc.
  • Rotate the INT knob to pick an effect and adjust parameters with hue/sat controls.
  • Use Preset buttons to save and recall looks.

Practical Tips

  • Keep panel vents clear and ensure proper airflow - it has active cooling built in.
