The Lunar New Year, a family celebration, starts January 29, 2025 and lasts about two weeks. According to the National Museum of Asian Art at the Smithsonian Institution, “Lunar New Year, opens a new window is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar. It is the most important holiday in China, and it is also widely celebrated in South Korea, Vietnam, and countries with a significant overseas Chinese population”. A great way to learn and celebrate this holiday is to experience how your community celebrates. Celebrations usually consist of light and sound with fireworks, music and traditional lion dances. If you or your child(ren) have sensitivity to loud lights and sounds, another great way to celebrate is to read about the Lunar New Year!
