There's a big push in the library world to get books about different types of people into children's hands. Librarians want all children to not only see their lives reflected in stories, but to have windows into the lives of others.
Reading diversely across races, religions, genders, cultures, and abilities can help children (and adults) strengthen their empathy and expand their understanding of the world.
