Ed McGaa (1936-2017), also known as Eagle Man, was a renowned author, speaker and activist of Lakota descent, born in 1937 on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. A decorated veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, McGaa served in the Vietnam War before dedicating his life to promoting Native American rights and environmental conservation. He was best known for his writings, which include both non-fiction and poetry, reflecting on indigenous culture, spirituality and the importance of protecting the Earth. McGaa was a vocal advocate for the rights of Native peoples and worked to raise awareness about the historical and ongoing challenges they face. Through his work, he aimed to bridge cultural gaps and foster understanding between Native and non-Native communities.
