May the Fourth Be With You: Star Wars Heroes Recommendations

Star Wars is full of incredible, famous and memorable heroes. But during long rides on the Millennium Falcon or in between training sessions, there can be a lot of downtime in the lives of these intergalactic heroes. Ever think about what those heroes do? What they might read? Check out some book recommendations from some of the galaxy's most iconic heroes.

Luke Skywalker - The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

Luke is one of the quintessential heroes in pop culture. So it would only make sense that he gravitates to other classic heroes like Bilbo Baggins. Their journeys are similar and really show each character's evolution.

Leia Organa - The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri

Princess Leia is one of the keys to the success of the rebellion. She is strong and captivating and unflinching in her morals. Malini has a similar disposition and is in a similar plight. These two women would be best friends if they lived in the same universe.

Han Solo - The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher

There's nothing quite like an irreverent, reluctant hero. Han would see himself in Dresden. But they might be too similar to actually get along. Still, there are enough adventures with a hero who's unafraid to break the rules to keep Han entertained (and probably give him some bad ideas of his own).

Chewbacca - The Jack Reacher series by Lee Child

Chewie is all about the action. He is strong and charges into battle and is willing to do what it takes for his friends. His reading tastes would be the same. So Jack Reacher would be the action-packed series for this warrior.

Yoda - Siddhartha by Herman Hesse

Yoda would recommend this wise novel with a clear hero's journey at the center of it. It's full of life lessons and tells the story of one of the most influential historical figures. It's a brilliant coming-of-age story that Yoda would refer back to again and again.

Rey Skywalker - The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

Rey is a revolutionary. She fights for what is right, despite the cost and always does her best. It's only natural that she would recommend a book with a revolution and injustice at the heart of it. Plus, she wouldn't mind a bit of violence and a romance B plot.

Poe Dameron - Breaking Sky by Cori McCarthy

Poe is charming and has a certain swagger that can't be taught. And, he's a pretty talented pilot. Poe would drool over the action in this book about futuristic fighter pilots. It's a young adult novel, so he won't get bogged down by descriptions but he'll still be thoroughly entertained by the story.

Finn - Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Finn's journey in the later trilogy is all about self-discovery. He goes from being a number to having a name and having a purpose. While this book may be a little on the sad side for Finn, he would still enjoy the growth and strength throughout the novel.

R2-D2 - The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules by Catharina Ingelman-Sundberg

R2-D2 is a cheeky little droid who seems to be smarter than all the humans in the story. He would enjoy a good laugh, especially if it's about a silly, irreverent older lady who defies all expectations.

BB8 - Noor by Nnedi Okorafor

BB8 is a fast little droid. He would need a short, speedy book that still full of technology and action. This one hits all those marks. It's less than 250 pages and will pass by in a flash, but will stick in your brain for a while.

C-3PO - The Wizard of Oz by Frank L. Baum

C-3PO would enjoy this book because at the end of the day, Dorothy just want to go home. She's not the most adventurous type but she sticks to the rules (or the road) and is loyal to her friends. Cautious and anxious, C-3PO would be happy to follow a heroine like Dorothy.

Ahsoka Tano - The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

This book has some of the most devastating betrayals in all of literature (no spoilers, it happens within the first few chapters and drives the whole plot). There is a vigilante spirit that drives this story. Ahsoka would enjoy the classic tale that is still full of adventure, disciplined characters and forgiveness.
