Recordala Siempre: Lucía Victoria “Luvi” Torres

Luvi Torres (1988–2025) was an Argentine singer, composer, multi‑instrumentalist, educator and producer. She was originally from Quilmes, Buenos Aires, opens a new window and began singing at the age of eight. She became one of the foremost voices of contemporary Argentine folk music by seamlessly blending ancestral vocal traditions and rhythms, such as zambas, opens a new window, chacareras, opens a new window and bagualas, opens a new window with elements of rock, pop, electronic music and healing soundscapes. Torres performed with various instruments such as the bombo legüero, opens a new window, caja chayera, opens a new window, guitar and the distinctive “bichito cordobés, opens a new window”.

Her discography includes the albums Ser el agua, opens a new window (2014), Uoaei, opens a new window (2020) and EPs such as Transelementes, opens a new window and Ceremonia, opens a new window.  Beyond music, Luvi founded spiritual and healing vocal projects like Cantar Sana and Ser Canto Medicina, using singing, meditation and shamanic practices as tools of emotional and spiritual well‑being.

Luvi was diagnosed with cancer in January 2023. She publicly rejected conventional treatments and embarked on a self‑healing journey via her holistic method. Initially, she believed this brought remission, but the illness ultimately returned and lead to her passing on July 12, 2025.

Here are a few of my favorites from Luvi Torres with Chancha Via Circuito.
