Sly Stone, born Sylvester Stewart on March 15, 1943, in Denton, Texas, passed away on June 9, 2025. Sly Stone was a pioneering American musician, songwriter and producer best known as the frontman of the funk band Sly and the Family Stone, opens a new window, one of the most influential funk, soul and rock bands of the 1960s and '70s.

Raised in a musical family in Vallejo, California, Stone became a radio DJ and producer before forming the band in 1966, which broke barriers with its racially integrated and gender-inclusive lineup. Their groundbreaking fusion of psychedelic rock, soul and funk, with socially conscious lyrics helped shape the sound of modern music, with hits like "Everyday People" "Dance to the Music" and "Family Affair". Sly Stone's impact on music and culture has been and will remain profound, cementing forever his legacy as a visionary artist and a symbol of unity and change.
