Sometimes it's hard to tell if we love libraries or our critter companions more! Thankfully we don't have to choose—after a day in library land, we're greeted by these much-loved critters. We hope their cute faces bring a smile to you just as they do for us. Want to get to know them? Click on their photo!
- Our most recent addition: Tulla, a 5 month old springerdoodle we adopted from Colorado Springs. With her big ears and stubby tail she looks like a little bear running around the yard. She adores our other pup and is glued to my side at all costs.
- Copper is a two year old collie mix who enjoys dressing up to celebrate the howlidays. Copper is never in a bad mood. He’s full of smiles and it’s absolutely contagious. He loves everyone he meets. 15/10 for good attitude and new friendships.
- This is Onyx – a 4 year old lab rescue we adopted last November. He loves belly rubs and there is no squeaky toy he has not rendered into stuffing.
- This is Pig in her bed. She loves hay and tomatoes are her favorite veggie. She is a senior citizen pig but still runs laps around her cage when she’s excited.
- My little bichon poodle, Sammy, was a stray that we adopted last fall. Poor little guy was not neutered, groomed or tagged, so we took care of all three right away! He is super-smart and just finished his final exam at the Petco Training Center and graduated! This is Sammy’s graduation picture!
- This is Finnegan. He likes to read, eat, and steal sparkly things. 🙂 He is AKA Finn, Finn Finn, Finny, Mr. Soft Paws and Pretty Kitty.
- This is Randi. Randi likes to sleep all day, eat meal-worms and chase down crickets for fun (before they get eaten).
- This is Leia (yes, she’s named after one of the best characters in Star Wars). She’s a ten-month-old lab who loves to snuggle, chase squirrels and play in the yard with her dog bff, Daisy. She’s currently working hard in obedience classes to learn how to walk nicely on a leash, among other good habits. Leia is one of the most outgoing dogs you’ll ever find, and she’s always happy to see you!
- Jaco may look as if he’s 100 years old but this little sage is actually just over a year! Named for the famous bassist, Jaco loves to listen to his Daddy play bass and enjoys interrupting me while I try to read or give my online book reviews. His favorite food is green bell pepper and he loves chasing bugs. Also known by the following names: Jaco-Taco, Jacamole and Baby-Boo (just to name a few).
- Pippin is named after a favorite Hobbit, and he can be just as silly. His favorite things are squeaking his ball, arguing with me and getting the zoomies to air dry after he gets wet (bath time, rain, snow, etc.). His ears only look as pictured when he is sleepy, otherwise they are thrown back to show he is full of happy energy.
- Our latest addition, Buddy is a sweet boy who is a snuggler extraordinaire. He prefers to spend his time sleeping, chasing Abby and playing with toys. He is just a pup but is a fast learner and very smart.
- Pig came to us from a very sweet little boy (the son of a dear friend) who could no longer keep him. He is your average guinea pig, he is just learning to walk in his critter ball and not just poop in it. He loves fresh veggies and spends the majority of his time trying not to be noticed by our 3 dogs.
- This is Abby. She is quite a character. Her hobbies include stalking our guinea pig, worrying about what everyone else is doing and playing ball (particularly during dinner time). She is also a total sweetheart and loves to curl up in your sweatshirt for sleepy time (we spent many hours like this while I studied for my bachelor’s degree).
- This is miss Islay Sue (eye-lee), she’s a miniature golden doodle. She loves to chew rocks, chase lasers and will forever look like a puppy. We love her to bits!
- This is my little Aspen. He got stepped on when he was two weeks old and broke his little front legs. It didn’t quite heal correctly but he’s happy, friendly, and has no idea anything is wrong with him. He loves to cuddle.
- When I shut the door to my bedroom this is what happens. Misha is my Siberian cat who was supposed to be less allergenic…she’s not. My labs are sisters; my husband surprised me with an extra puppy. We were supposed to get Clementine, but my husband couldn’t say no to the runt, Midnight. They are all 9.
- This is Rudy, our lovable tripod Vizsla (Hungarian Pointer) we rescued with help from the 2nd Chance Vizsla Rescue in Fort Collins. Despite years of neglect, he is the most affectionate dog who lives for snuggles and belly rubs!
- This is Toby. He is 8 years old and we adopted him from the DDFL. He loves to play, walk, dig and cuddle. His happy little face just makes me smile.
- This is Bitzi, a rescue from a Texas puppy mill. She prefers to spend her time laying in the sun and being smooched on. She is a huge fan of ice cream and walking on snow drifts but hates any kind of flying insect (she hides when the flies come out!)
- This is my youngest Corgi named Doyle. He is 2 and my special boy. Squeaky toys are his favorite thing
- This is Turbo, he is not fast. He was rescued after being found “on the run” in Oklahoma with a dog named Wiggles. His favorite pastime is sleeping under the bed, and he’ll do anything for a carrot.
- This is Denali (the fluffy baby one) and Pippa (the chubby skunk one). They “wheeek” super loud when there’s any possibility of food. They like chillin’ on the lawn and also startling each other.
- This is Gus. He’s a beagle mix rescue from West Virginia. He was found in the woods and is believed to be a “failed hunting dog.” He’s very sweet and loves his people. He also enjoys napping in the sun (or on the couch), sniffing out bunnies and squirrels on walks, treats (well, food in general), and bounding through the snow.
- This is Nitro. He is 6 month old (3 months in this picture). We rescued him from the Dumb Friends League in June when he picked us as his daddies. Once we walked into the kitten room and sat down, Nitro walked onto my lap, cuddled up and fell asleep. That was all it took and we knew we had to bring him home. Now he runs the house!
- This is Altair. He’s an old man (nearly 17!) that we adopted in October of 2010. His name comes from the Assassin’s Creed character, which really fits with his grey hood and his love for perching on things. He’s very chatty and if he thinks you’ve been gone too long, you can expect a lecture when you get home.
- That’s my second rescued dog, Zara. We adopted her three years ago from Denver Dumb Friends League, when we decided our dog Yukon needed a buddy. Zara was returned to the League three times, was absolutely unsocial, never played with other dogs and had a different name then. When she saw Yuki, she started to wag her tail and brought him her favorite toy – a purple dinosaur. Today she is playful, happy and full of life! Still has no manners, though.
- Meet Aragorn, the little golden cria (baby alpaca), who likes to play with his half brothers Legolas and Peyton. All three babies got their dad’s silky fleece but have different colors, matching their mom’s colors.
- Hi! I’m Juniper Jones! I am one year old and as extroverted as my human Maria. I love retrieving big sticks, cuddling, long walks on the beach, long walks in the woods, long walks…anywhere! I love people and dogs. Some say I look like Falkor from “The Never Ending Story.” I hope that when I grow up I will be a therapy dog so I can sit in children’s laps while they read to me!
- She also loved snuggling with our dog Hunter before he passed away last year. Especially when he was sick. She was grooming his face in the picture.
- Here is my Rigby. We got him from a coworker’s sister. He is my sweet angel and a typical Schnauzer. He loves to dig and chase squirrels! He is especially good at being the cul-de-sac instigator for all dog barking! 😉 We used to really have to work for his love – again, typical Schnauzer – but since we had our twin boys, he LOVES sitting on our feet so we can’t get up until we pet him!
- This is Theo. He is very large golden doodle who loves snuggling at all times. He also loves squirrels.
- This is Link and Zelda. Both were adopted from DDFL; Zelda two weeks after I moved out on my own and Link, a puppy mill rescue, a few years later. These two have been such a joy, and though they are different breeds we call Link Zelda’s “mini-me.”
- Zoe crushing a hike! She’s 9, has the energy of a puppy, and is named after energetic Zoe from “Sesame Street.”
- And this is Boomer, my grand-kittie, also adopted by my son from Denver. He is extremely loving and adores Marilyn. He can often be found kneading the side of a sleeping Marilyn, who sleeps through the massages with no problem.
- This is Marilyn, my grand-doggie. My son adopted her from a Denver shelter a few years ago. She is the sweetest gal ever. (She was named after Marilyn Monroe because she has a beauty mark on her face too.)
- I also adopted Chip from the Dumb Friends League a few years ago and he’s 13 like LuLu. He purrs super loud and outweighs LuLu. I’m a sucker for the senior pets.
- I adopted LuLu last year from the Dumb Friends League. She was a stray that came from Mesa County so she could get the proper vet care that they were unable to provide. She’s an old lady at 13 years, but is full of love and life.
- Our first rescued bully – Sophia. She hated all other dogs but was so lovable with everyone else. It’s been 2 years and we still miss her!
- This is two-year-old Scout – our second rescued English Bulldog. She is incredibly sweet, LOVES to be loved, and we’re so glad the breeder who forced her to have two litters decided that was enough and gave her up for adoption. Lucky us!! She only occasionally throws herself down and refuses to go out, but that just adds to her charm.
- This is my sweet buddy, Rory. She’s a cavalier-bichon mix, has moved all over the country with me, enjoys hiking 14ers (we think) and plays with this giant Lambchop in her free time.
- This is our Burley. She’s an olde English bulldogge and is 5 1/2. She looks so tough but is such a sweetie. She loves walks, people and having her butt scratched!
- This is my nephew pup, Oliver. He is a Bichon/Poodle and he LOVES his Auntie. My sister said that she can’t even say the “A” word (Auntie) without him whining and running to his leash. Oliver means so much to me that he was the ring bearer at my wedding.
- This was my dear sweet Huckleberry. He was adopted from a friend in Wyoming. He only lived for two years after I’d adopted him, but I’ll never forget his last night with us. I found my husband holding Huck and cuddling by the fireplace. I cherish the memory of that peaceful moment.
- Winter (left) and Griffin (right) “helping” me cook. Our kitchen is very small and mostly taken up by helpful (hungry?) pups.
- This is Penny. She was found abandoned in a neighborhood being attacked by the neighborhood’s bully cat. After going door-to-door, checking for a chip, and not getting a response from signs we posted, I decided to keep this sweet girl. At first she was attached to me, but after 7 years (she is now 9!) she decides to make me jealous by sitting with anyone but me. She’s a super silly girl, mega loved, and not at all spoiled (jk, she’s extremely spoiled by my whole family who insist I bring her to every gathering).
- This is bad boy Harry. He is the reason why we have to keep our bathroom doors shut AT ALL TIMES. You can see the evidence on his guilty face! But, we love him anyway.
- Toby was abandoned in the apartment below us when his owners moved. Surprising no one, I took him in immediately. He loved pizza, chicken wings and green olives. We had to say goodbye to him last year.
- When we picked Cally at the SPCA, she was super cute and cuddly. We had no idea how chatty and opinionated she was! To her credit, I’m her favorite and she’s my little shadow when I’m home. She loves peanut butter, cheese, and maple syrup.
- This is our girl, Feenie. We adopted her the day after Christmas when she was about 10 years old. She had been in and out of the pound her entire life, was depressed, had stomach problems and did not get along well with other cats. They just had a meeting earlier that day to discuss euthanizing her. The employees at the DDFL were in tears when they found out we were adopting her. She has been a perfect addition to our home! Her favorite things are getting brushed, enjoying the sun on the patio, and eating cheese. We are so happy she chose us as her forever home.
- This is Daisy the Wonder Cat. She’s a wonder because, as you can see, she’s missing a back leg. The story the shelter told me was that when she was born, she was abandoned by her mom in a window well with the umbilical cord wrapped around the leg. Someone took her to the shelter where they cared for her, and at 4 months old her leg was amputated. I’ve had her since she was 5 months old and she’s now 16. She’s my “proximity cat” – she likes to be near me at all times but never on my lap. She rarely spoke until she got older and now I wake up to the dulcet tones of her whining for breakfast. Literally it’s the whiniest meow you’ve ever heard. I love her ever so much.
- Oliver was abandoned and dropped off overnight at the shelter a few years ago. He’s became my best padawan since I’ve come to know him.
- This is Elsie. She loves crocheted sweaters, being carried on her evening walks so she can better smell the breeze, chewing her stuffed ducky, getting brushed during our “beauty parlor” sessions and having her tiny fuzzy “kitty paws” massaged. She’s not spoiled at all!
- Our Cardigan Corgi (the ones with a tail), Mister Spock. He’s short and loud and if you scratch his belly just right, you’ll think there’s a tauntaun in the room with you.
- Jasper, a rescue, could be held in one hand when we adopted him and now he needs two full arms of support if he let’s you hold him.
- Alice was rescued from a hoarding situation, and taken to a rabbit sanctuary in Frederick, CO, where my partner and I adopted her. I had no idea how much personality one little bun could have! She’s completely free range, no cages for this gal. Luckily for me, rabbits are surprisingly easy to litter box train.
- Here are my Fred and Ethel. Yes, they’re named for the “I Love Lucy” couple. I like to rescue senior cats because they’re usually the last to be adopted. Also, like the famous couple, they don’t get along at all.
