Don't panic if you pick up a picture book with no words! Wordless books are a gateway to developing your child's imagination, vocabulary self-esteem and storytelling skills.
Here's how to not be at a loss for words when reading these books:
- Take a walk through the pages, glancing at the pictures and getting a feel for the story.
- Volunteer to go first and model to your child how to tell a story, using the pictures as a guide.
- Let your child have a turn if they're comfortable.
- Read it again! What do you notice this time that you didn't before?
Take a look at Baby, Baby, What Do You See? for questions to ask while reading wordless books.
