Arapahoe Libraries is partnering with Backpack Society, opens a new window to address food insecurity for students and families in our service area.
Backpack Society provides weekend bags of food to supplement free lunch programs provided by surrounding school districts with the goal of removing food insecurity as an obstacle for children so they can grow, learn and thrive. These easy-to-prepare meals help to make sure that kids can focus on important things – like being a kid!
During our Summer Reading Program, June 2-July 31, kids and teens 18 and younger can pick up free weekend food bags at every Arapahoe Libraries location. Each bag contains four pounds of shelf-stable food which may include: canned goods, ramen or mac ‘n’ cheese, fruit snacks and granola bars. These are restocked on Fridays and available while supplies last.
We are excited to partner with this community organization and provide resources for our patrons.
