The Arapahoe Library District (“the District”) is committed to providing free access to library resources and information through physical and virtual materials, technology, and services. This can include electronic resources, devices, networks, computer access, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to meet the informational needs and interests of the community while protecting access to diverse ideas.
To ensure a safe, welcoming environment and to safeguard library resources, the District prohibits certain activities that constitute unacceptable use of its technology.

- Library staff do not act in loco parentis. Parents/guardians are solely responsible for guiding their children’s, and only their own children’s, internet use.
INTERNET FILTERING
The District uses filters on public computers and Wi-Fi to block obscene or sexually explicit materials. However:
- The District cannot guarantee the accuracy or comprehensiveness of these filters and does not make any claims as to the safety or suitability of content accessible through District technology for any specific patron.
- Patrons age 17 years and older may request that the internet filter be temporarily removed from a District computer not located within a children’s area by notifying the onsite Technology Specialist, or by contacting 303-LIBRARY if the Technology Specialist is unavailable. Filter removal requests may take up to one business day.
ENFORCEMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY
- The District reserves the right to ask patrons violating this policy to stop their activity. Violations may result in being asked to leave the library, suspensions, or losing library privileges (see: Patron Code of Conduct).
- Illegal activities may be referred to law enforcement for investigation and prosecution.
- Patrons are responsible for their actions while using library resources. The District does not assume responsibility and is not liable for any damages resulting from the use of its resources or internet access.
PRIVACY AND DATA PROTECTION
The District takes reasonable measures to protect patron privacy and ensure the secure disposal of data containing personal information. Patrons are encouraged to log out of public computers and safeguard personal data while using library technology. For more information, see the Patron Privacy Policy and Disposal of Data Containing Personal Identifying Information Policy.
