Easily split a single audio file (track) of multiple songs into multiple audio files (tracks) using Audacity's Label Sounds tool. The Label Sounds tool detects silence in the track and applies "labels" at those silent points in the track. Once those labels are applied by Audacity you can then leave them, move them or delete those you might not need.
Getting Started
- Click on the Audacity icon to open Audacity. Note: You might get some pop ups. Close them if so.
- You can import your audio file
OR - Drag and drop your file in the dark area of Audacity.

- Your audio file will then appear in Audacity.

- Now highlight the entire track by clicking once in the light blue space where the red dot is in the image below.

- You see the area where the audio track is turn blue, as it appears in the image below.

- Now click on the Analyze tab (circled in red) and then click on Label Sounds (circled in green) in the drop-down menu.

- The following screen will appear. I chose -40.0 as threshold level and "Point before sound" as Label type. I left everything else as is. Click on the Apply button.

- After clicking on Apply, the following screen appears with labels noting where silence appears in the track. Note there are nine labels showing. I know the full album only has eight songs on it, so I'll need to make some changes. You can slide the labels around wherever you want them. TIP: Not enough labels? You can add labels too. Just click in your audio track to place the cursor at a specific point. Press Cmd + B on the keyboard and a new label will appear.

- A tenth label showed up underneath the number nine label. I moved the eight labels where they needed to be and then slid the extra two labels off to the right.

- I then scrolled across the extra two labels (Sound 9 and Sound 10) with the mouse which highlighted them, then I clicked the delete key on the keyboard.

- ...and they were gone.

- With all the labels in place I'm ready to export. Click on File (circled in red) and then click on Export Audio (circled in green).

- You might get this message. If so, click on the "Export to computer" button.

- You'll then get the following screen. Here you can choose where you want the files saved to by clicking on the Browse button (circled in red) and select the type of file you want your files to be (circled in green), using the drop-down menu. My files will go to the Music folder and they will be MP3 files. I then chose Multiple Files (circled in yellow) as Export Range and Labels (circled in purple) under "Split files base on:" When ready click on the Export button (circled in blue).

- Audacity will then start exporting the songs as individual files.

- Once completed you'll see all the tracks listed.

- Now all of the tracks are in my Music folder where I can rename them.
TIP: When you're at #9 in this tutorial you can also click on the labels and rename them.
