The Arapahoe Library District Collection Development Policy is based on the following principles:
A. Materials are selected which provide for the interest, information, enlightenment, entertainment, education, development, and enrichment of all library patrons, within budgetary constraints and availability of materials.
B. The freedom to read, along with the freedom to hear and to view, is protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. This freedom will be upheld, supported, and defended in the selection and accessibility of all library materials. In this regard, the Library District upholds the principles of the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read, Freedom to View, Statement on Labeling, and Free Access to Libraries for Minors.
C. Selection of materials does not constitute or imply agreement with or approval of the content, viewpoint, implications, or presentation of the materials.
D. The library staff does not serve in loco parentis. It is the parent(s), and only the parent(s), responsibility to guide their children, and only their own children, in using and accessing library materials. Selection will not be inhibited by the possibility that materials may inadvertently come into the possession of children.
E. The Library District is not a judicial body. Laws governing obscenity, subversive materials, and other questionable matters are subject to interpretation by the courts.
Notwithstanding, a patron has the right to challenge the Library District to reconsider library materials, exhibits, displays, and programs:
- A challenge for reconsideration must be in writing; forms are available at all Arapahoe Library District libraries upon request.
- Any challenged library material, exhibit, display, or program will not be removed while the challenge is under review.
- Challenges will only be reviewed from patrons with an active Arapahoe Libraries card living within the Arapahoe Libraries tax-paying service area.
- A patron may have only one challenge active at any given time.
- Upon resolution of a challenge, the challenged library material, exhibit, display or program cannot be rechallenged by any individual within one calendar year.
- Patrons and authors can also suggest titles to be purchased for the collection and suggestions are evaluated according to the same criteria listed in the selection guidelines.
The Arapahoe Library District has adopted the following separate polices regarding access to electronic resources and the internet: Website Link Selection Policy; Acceptable Use of Library Technology and Services Policy. DERECHO A CUESTIONAR MATERIALES
La Política de Desarrollo de las Colecciones del Distrito de Bibliotecas de Arapahoe, se basa en los siguientes principios:
A. Se seleccionan materiales que mantengan el interés, información, conocimiento, entretenimiento, educación, desarrollo y enriquecimiento de todos los usuarios de la biblioteca, dentro de los límites de presupuesto y disponibilidad de los materiales.
B. La libertad de leer, junto con la libertad de oír y ver, está protegida por la Primera Enmienda de la Constitución de los Estados Unidos. Esta libertad se mantendrá, respaldará y defenderá en la selección y la accesibilidad de todos los materiales de la biblioteca. No obstante, un usuario tiene el derecho de solicitar ante el Distrito de Bibliotecas para que éste reconsidere los materiales, exposiciones, exhibiciones y programas de la biblioteca. La solicitud para que se efectúe una reconsideración debe hacerse por escrito; los formularios están disponibles a petición, en todas las bibliotecas del Distrito de Bibliotecas de Arapahoe. No se eliminará ningún material, exposición, exhibición o programa de la biblioteca que se encuentre impugnado, mientras la impugnación esté bajo revisión. Los usuarios y los autores también pueden sugerir títulos para que sean adquiridos para la colección y, las sugerencias se evalúan de acuerdo con los mismos criterios que se incluyen en las guías de la selección.

Родитель(и) и только родители несут ответственность за то, чтобы направлять своих детей, и только их собственных детей, в использовании и доступе к библиотечным материалам. Отбору не будет препятствовать возможность того, что материалы могут непреднамеренно попасть во владение детей.
E. Библиотечный район не является судебным органом. Законы, регулирующие непристойность, подрывные материалы и другие сомнительные вопросы, подлежат толкованию судами.
Тем не менее, посетитель имеет право потребовать от библиотечного района пересмотреть библиотечные материалы, выставки, экспозиции и программы. Возражение на повторное рассмотрение должно быть в письменной форме; формы доступны по запросу во всех библиотеках библиотечного района Arapahoe. Любые оспариваемые библиотечные материалы, выставки, экспозиции или программы не могут быть удалены, пока возражение находится на рассмотрении. Постоянные читатели и авторы также могут предлагать названия для покупки коллекции, и такие предложения оцениваются в соответствии с теми же критериями, которые включены в руководящие принципы отбора.
