Choosing the right USB-C flash drive
To record smoothly, the Rodecaster needs a fast, high‑capacity USB-C drive.
Recommended Specs
- Interface: USB-C (USB 3.0 or faster)
-
Capacity:
- 128–256 GB – good for podcasts or short multitrack sessions
- 512 GB–1 TB+ – best for long shows or frequent recordings
- File System: exFAT or FAT32 (NTFS is not supported)
TIP: Dual‑Type (USB‑C & USB‑A): Makes it easier to transfer files between devices like phones and laptops.
Getting Started with Your USB-C
Format the Drive for the Rodecaster Pro II
- Insert the USB-C flash drive into the USB-C storage port on the Rodecaster Pro II (circled in yellow).

- If the drive isn’t recognized or the file system isn’t supported, the Rodecaster screen will prompt you to format it.
- Formatting will erase all files on your flash drive. If you have anything you wish to keep on your flash drive, save it to another device before proceeding with formatting.
Start Recording to the USB Drive
- Once the drive is detected, a drive icon and available time should appear on the home screen.
- Press the REC button (it turns red) to begin recording directly to the flash drive.
- When done, press and hold REC again to stop.
Tip: If both a microSD and USB flash are inserted, the Rodecaster may record to both by default. Feel free to remove the microSD card before recording so only your USB-C flash drive is attached. Also feel free to leave the microSD in and consider it a potential backup of the recording.
Eject and Transfer Files
When recording is finished:
- Go to the home screen or tap the storage icon showing your connected USB device.
- Tap Eject before removing the drive to prevent file corruption.
- Plug the flash drive into a computer to access your recordings:
- You’ll find folders containing your podcast/show files, including:
-
- Stereo mix WAV
- Individual track WAV files (if multitrack was enabled)

Tips and Tricks
- Slow or low‑quality flash drives can cause skips or incomplete recordings - always use USB 3.0 or better
- If your drive doesn’t show up, try formatting it to exFAT, then reinserting.
- Always eject the drive from the Rodecaster before unplugging.
- Long recordings and multitrack files use lots of space - larger drives help avoid running out of room mid‑session.
