Watch hoopla and Kanopy on Your Smart TV

Many public libraries offer free access to movies and TV shows through hoopla and Kanopy. If you have a valid library card, you can watch content on your smart TV using the hoopla or Kanopy app. Best of all? No commercials!

What You'll Need

Before you begin, make sure you have:

• Access to hoopla and/or Kanopy through your public library. If you're not sure whether your library offers these services, check your library's website (look for eMovie or a list of Online Resources) or ask a staff member.
• A valid library card.
• Your library account or PIN/password (if required by your library).
• A smart TV connected to the internet
• A free hoopla and/or Kanopy account linked to your library card.

Creating an account

Before using the TV apps, you'll need to create your account.

Note: A free hoopla or Kanopy account lets you browse, borrow and keep track of the movies and TV shows you watch using your library card.

1. Visit your library's website.
2. Select the hoopla or Kanopy link.
3. Create a free account using:
   • Your email address
   • A password
   • Your library card number
4. Follow the prompts to verify your library.

Watch hoopla on Your Smart TV

Step 1: Install the hoopla app

1. Turn on your smart TV.
2. Open your TV's app store.
3. Search for hoopla.
4. Download and install the app if it isn't already installed.

Step 2: Open the hoopla app

1. Launch the hoopla app.
2. The app may display an activation code or ask you to sign in.

Step 3: Sign in

Depending on your TV, you may have one of two options:

• Enter your hoopla email and password directly on the TV.
• Activate the TV using another device.

If an activation code appears:

1. On your phone, tablet or computer, then visit the website shown on your TV.
2. Sign in to your hoopla account.
3. Enter the activation code.
4. Your TV should automatically connect.

Step 4: Browse and Watch

Once signed in:

• Browse movies and TV shows.
• Select a title.
• Choose Borrow (if required).
• Select Play to begin watching.

Watch Kanopy on Your Smart TV

Step 1: Install the Kanopy app

1. Open your smart TV's app store.
2. Search for Kanopy.
3. Download and install the app.

Step 2: Open Kanopy

Launch the app.

Depending on your TV, you may have one of two options:

• Enter your Kanopy email and password directly on the TV.
• Activate the TV using another device.

Step 3: Sign In or Activate

If using an activation code:

1. On your phone, tablet, or computer, visit the activation website shown on your TV.
2. Sign in to your Kanopy account.
3. Enter the code displayed on the TV.
4. The TV will sign in automatically.

Step 4: Start Watching

Browse the collection, select a movie or TV show, and press Play.

Troubleshooting

I don't see the hoopla or Kanopy app

• Check your TV's app store.
• Older smart TVs may not support these apps.
• You may be able to use a streaming device such as Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV or Google TV instead.

My library card isn't working

• Verify your library card number and PIN/password.
• Make sure your library card hasn't expired.
• Contact your library for assistance.

Trouble signing in

• Confirm you're using the same email address and password you used when creating your hoopla or Kanopy account.
• Try signing in on a phone or computer first to verify your account.

Videos won't play

• Check your internet connection.
• Restart the app or your TV.
• Make sure your TV software is up to date.
